"I
started Stargazey Quilts in 1996 initially as a pattern design
company, but it is now a business that is continually evolving and
moving into other quilt related disciplines. Coming from a broad
training as an art teacher majoring in Textiles and Sculpture I find
it stimulating to do more than just make quilts.
Stargazey Quilts publishes two new patterns each
May and October. The patterns are recipes for blocks in a variety of
sizes with instructions to make it like my sample. All are colorful
and contemporary in look and technique and are machine pieced. The
designs are "crooked" in concept - every block is a
little different, none are perfect, all are fun to make!"
"Cut Loose Quilts, released by
C&T Publishing, has extended some of the techniques originating
from some of the patterns. Writing the book allowed me to take the
techniques further, show more variations on techniques and make more
quilt samples too. In Cut Loose, I demonstrate many
techniques needed to make "crooked" versions of
traditional geometric quilts - this time with recipes to resize the
units and blocks."
"Designing fabric for Marcus Fabrics is
something that gives me great pleasure. Essentially I design for the
quiltmaker in me. I look for gaps in my stash, I try to extend the
color palette, I change the scale of prints to suit the type of
quilts I am making at the moment, I try to expand my fabric library
by extending the creative uses of prints. I do keep an eye on what
is happening in the marketplace but basically I just have lots of
fun with color, line and paint!" |
