Nancy
Thias is an accomplished artist, designer and entrepreneur who
has built a reputation for creating original, captivating prints
and patterns inspired by the playfulness and spirituality of
nature. As the owner and founder of Paper Petals Studio in
Fenton, MO, Nancy has purposefully crafted a style all her own,
which is evident in the vibrant colors, clean lines and
contemporary patterns of her original licensed artwork.
Nancy's love for both art and nature was fostered at an early
age. She grew up in a contemporary house in Sunset Hills, MO
designed by her father, EJ Thias, a renowned Missouri architect
and artist. Surrounded by minimalist design and an abundance of
flower gardens, Nancy was taught by her father how to paint
before she learned to draw. Beneath a canopy of hardwoods, Nancy
would spend hours taking in the intimate yet dramatic beauty in
her own backyard and learning to craft her own style under the
careful stewardship of her father, her life-long mentor. Today,
her designs are still inspired by a balance of complex, colorful
patterns born out of simple, natural elements.
Nancy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Textile and Apparel
Management (TAM) in 1986 from the University of Missouri -
Columbia. After college, Nancy worked for her father a few
years, then blossomed into the world of design and fashion. As
the Lead Marketing Manager for Levi Straus & Company, Nancy
helped to create the number-one store in the United States
Menswear Division with her unique approach to display and
merchandising. As the Senior Textile Designer for May
Merchandising Company, Nancy designed stunning prints for 25
corporate buyers and merchandisers in the US and overseas. Her
style achieved more than a 90% sell-through rate, astounding in
such a competitive industry.
However, Nancy got the urge to forge her own path in the meadow
of design. In 2001, a turbulent year for this nation, Nancy was
inspired to bring to life new and vibrant designs that harkened
back to a simpler time. She formed Paper Petals Studio,
specializing in licensed art, surface design and stationery. She
has developed original surface, textile, print and pattern
design for the home and fashion markets, and licensed fine art
for reproduction and worldwide distribution. All of Nancy's
patterns and prints are created with a combination of
computer-aided design (CAD), watercolors, graphite, pen and ink.
Her decorative patterns have been featured in the major motion
picture "Valentines Day".
For Nancy, each day spent creating, designing and revisiting the
Sunset Hills studio is like coming home. With each design, Nancy
seeks to provide her clients with a sense of warmth, playfulness
and a window to a time when we were sheltered by a canopy of
oaks and our fragrant, blossoming backyard brought us countless
adventures, if we only let ourselves wonder... |
