Old Sturbridge Village
Old
Sturbridge Village, a nonprofit educational institution that first opened
in 1946, is a history museum and learning resource that invites all
visitors to find meaning, pleasure, relevance, and inspiration in the
exploration of New England's past. The centerpiece of the museum is a
re-created rural New England town of the 1830s set on more than 200 acres
of historical landscape, encompassing a Center Village, Mills Area, and
Countryside.
Old Sturbridge Village is proud to hold one of the nation's most
extensive collections of early New England quilts, with over 250 pieces
dating from the late 1700s to the mid-1800s. The Village's portrayal of
the past is grounded in award-winning historical research that includes
archaeology, analysis of early 19th-century objects and buildings, and
painstaking study of letters, diaries, account books and other documents.
