Marcus Fabrics Introduces the HAMPTON RIDGE BOM for Fall 2013

In creating this BOM, Red Crinoline Quilts designers Paula Barnes and Mary Ellen Robison combined successful elements of earlier programs, returning to the "cute factor" of 5-inch blocks designs in their first Marcus BOM, and a color palette based on some of Paula's favorite "Companions" colors. The simple layout shows off the variety of the prints, and to update the look for 2013, the light print used to frame the 5-inch blocks is also used for the sashing, giving the blocks a delicate floating effect. The print patterns and colors create sampler-style blocks that are varied, yet cohesive.

They advise that "piecing small blocks isn't much different than piecing large blocks -- you need an accurate " seam allowance and a little patience. You can do it!!" Half-square triangles (HSTs) are featured in the individual block borders that bring the forty-one 5-inch blocks to 7-inch finished. They also make up the outer quilt border, a special finishing detail that gives the quilt a beautiful, heirloom quality. To simplify the HST process for quilters, Red Crinoline Quilts worked with Liz Eagan of Spinning Star Design to introduce a new 1-" Star Singles half-square triangle paper sized especially for the HAMPTON RIDGE BOM program, making the pieced frames "oh-so-easy."

It's interesting that this gorgeous quilt design was in place before Paula designed the fabric collection. With the quilt concept decided, Paula picked some favorite colors from her "Companions" so that the line can be used in other projects and would work perfectly with the Companions line.Patterned from antique fabrics, the entire line of small-scaled prints was pulled together with a beautiful border print in Red Crinoline's signature color combination of red and brown.
