Pansies & Ivy Armchair Caddy
by Vandarra Robbins

This month we present the final room accessory featuring PANSIES & IVY, a handy Armchair Caddy designed to drape over the arm of your chair, with easy access pockets for snips and other small tools. It’s equally useful in your sewing room as it for leisurely hand sewing in the living room, family room or anywhere. Embellish it with your favorite embroidery motifs for added style.

R13 Pansies & Ivy
  • T461-165D (green texture) 3/8 yard
  • 1031-125D ( lilac pansy print) ¼ yard
  • fusible fleece
  • fiberfill to stuff pincushion
  • 3 curtain weights
Cutting Guide
  • green texture: 2 pieces, 19” x 7”
  • lilac pansy: 1 circle, 5” diameter
  • lilac pansy: 1 piece, 11” x 7-1/2” (pocket)

Caddy Instructions
  1. Embroider your desired design on one 19” x 7” piece of fabric. This will be the front of the caddy. Leave at least 6” free of embroidery for pocket placement. Mark the embroidery area as the top (View 1).
  2. Wrong sides together, fold pocket piece in half lengthwise. Baste raw edges together.
  3. Matching raw edges, pin pocket to the right side of the lower half of the caddy front, easing the bottom to fit. Baste in place.
  4. Apply fusible fleece to the remaining 19” x 7” piece, according to fleece manufacturer’s directions.
  5. Sew curtain weights to the wrong side of the fabric with fleece, through all thicknesses, across the bottom about 1” from the edge.
  6. With right sides together, sew pocketed caddy front to the caddy back with fleece. Leave an opening for turning. Be sure that the weights are opposite the pocketed side.
  7. Turn right side out, press; close the opening with small hand stitches.
  8. To form two pockets, sew two rows of machine stitching down the center of the pocket through all thicknesses.

Pincushion Instructions
  1. Press under ¼” around the edge of the fabric circle.
  2. Gather close to the pressed edge.
  3. Pull up the gathering thread slightly. Add fiberfill and continue to pull gathering threads until tightly closed. Tie off threads; do NOT cut the threads.
  4. Center the cushion on the caddy. Using the gathering threads, hand-sew the pincushion securely to the caddy.
