Quilted Headboard
Who says a headboard has to be made of hard wood or
wrought iron? Try this cozy design by Donie Mason, featuring EMPRESS
EXPRESS FLANNELS. It simply installs onto a decorative curtain rod, at
the height of a regular headboard. |
You'll Need
- Large Red Ground Floral G581-123W: 1 Yard
- Medium Red Ground Floral G583-123W: 5/8 Yard
- Small Red ground Floral G585-123W: 3/8 Yard
- Medium Cream Ground Floral G583-142W: 1/4 Yard
- Large Navy Ground Floral G581-110W: 1 Yard
- Green Mini-Swirl G586-114W: 5/8 Yard
- Small Ground Floral G585-114W: 3/8 Yard
- Binding Fabric: 1/3 Yard
- Backing Fabric and Batting: 1 Yard
- Optional: Buttons for tab accents

Cutting Guide
- Large Red and Navy Florals: Cut 5 - 2 1/2” Strips
- Medium Red Floral and Green Swirls: Cut 5 - 1 3/4”
Strips
- Small Red Floral and Small Green Floral: Cut 5 - 1
1/4” Strips
- Medium Cream Floral: Cut 2 - 2 1/2” Strips Crosscut
into 2 1/2” Squares (you will need 24)

| Make 5 strip sets of both the
red and navy combinations as shown below. |

| Press your seams in one
direction as indicated above (arrow). You will then cross-cut your strip
sets into 6 ½” segments. You will need 48 segments in each of the 2
color ways. |

This block has a set-in seam. You will start with your 2½” square lined
up with the large floral right sides together and only seam an inch. |
| Continue adding the
rails around the square until all four are attached. Then finish seaming
your first seam starting where you ended, for a total of 30 blocks. Attach
blocks into 3 rows 5 blocks each row. Quilt as desired and bind. Tabs for
hanging are made with the left over fabrics and are made by cutting 6” x
6” rectangles folded in half right sides together and seaming top and
side. Turn and attached as desired. Donie has included button accents at
the tabs. |
