Quilted Headboard

Who says a headboard has to be made of hard wood or wrought iron? Try this cozy design by Donie Mason, featuring EMPRESS EXPRESS FLANNELS. It simply installs onto a decorative curtain rod, at the height of a regular headboard.

Rails Around the Post
Make 5 strip sets of both the red and navy combinations as shown below.
Press your seams in one direction as indicated above (arrow). You will then cross-cut your strip sets into 6 ½” segments. You will need 48 segments in each of the 2 color ways.

This block has a set-in seam. You will start with your 2½” square lined up with the large floral right sides together and only seam an inch.
Continue adding the rails around the square until all four are attached. Then finish seaming your first seam starting where you ended, for a total of 30 blocks. Attach blocks into 3 rows 5 blocks each row. Quilt as desired and bind. Tabs for hanging are made with the left over fabrics and are made by cutting 6” x 6” rectangles folded in half right sides together and seaming top and side. Turn and attached as desired. Donie has included button accents at the tabs.
