Make it with Marcus Fabrics

PIECED HEART PILLOW
By Vandarra Robbins

NOTE: Instructions are for a 14” x 13” finished heart pillow. All seams are Ό” unless otherwise noted.

YOU’LL NEED:

R35 AUNT GRACE’S SCRAPBAG 2004
(5) coordinating fat quarters
Fiberfill for stuffing

CUTTING GUIDE
Strips are sewn together and then cut in to heart shape

Fabrics #1 through #4 2 - 3½” x 14½”
Fabric #5 4 - 3½” x 14½”
Fabric #1 1 Short Ruffle - 15” x 6”
Fabric #5 2 Long Ruffles - 42” x 6”

CONSTRUCTION

  1. Following the sketch, sew the 3½” x 14” strips together to form two panels. Press seams toward the center.
  2. Pin panels right sides together. Lay out pattern so that the grain line of the pattern lines up with one of the seam lines. Cut out pattern.
  3. Sew each side of the short ruffle to one side of the long ruffles. Sew the ends together.
  4. With wrong sides together, fold ruffle in half lengthwise. Press and pin raw edges together.
  5. Gather ruffle by machine basting ½” and Ό” from the raw edges.
  6. Right sides together, pin ruffle to one heart section. Pin so that fabric #1 is at the top of the inside curve of the heart. Adjust gathers to fit. Baste ruffle to heart with a ½” seam allowance.
  7. Pin remaining heart section, right sides together and stitch around following the previous basting stitch. Leave an opening large enough for turning and stuffing.
  8. Turn right side out and stuff.
