New from Judie Rothermel! This month
we're please to feature Judie's own instructions for the Baltimore
Album Basket, using her wonderful new Baltimore Album Additions.
Create an entire quilt, or frame a single 12-inch or 14-inch block
for a decorative wall accent. The collection features authentic
reds, greens and yellows of the period, plus a Prussian Blue that
Judie has added in response to the requests of quilters worldwide.
This block is one of the patterns from her Heirloom Appliqué
Quilt book, available through www.schoolhousequilts.com. |

General Directions
- Print templates; make a pattern piece for each
template from translucent plastic. Note that some templates must be
reversed to create the mirror-image design. You can opt to use bias
strips for all of the stems, rather than the templates.
- Draw templates onto the right side of the Baltimore
Album prints of your choice and cut the fabrics.
- Cut a 12½ or 14½-inch background square for the
basket. Baste each piece and place onto the background square (skit
this step if you are a needle turner).
- Pin or baste all pieces into position, using the
photo and the diagram as guides. Hand appliqué using machine threads.
- Mark for quilting, then prepare for quilting in your
lap or in a hoop. Take the block to a professional framer for a
beautiful heirloom for your home, or for a special gift. Please sign
and date your work.
