Basket:
  1. Make (3) log cabin blocks as shown in Diagram 1, cutting logs 1-3/4” wide. Add logs to the center square in the order shown; trim lengths. Using the photo as a guide, mix brown pints for the center block; mix half light and half dark prints for the two side blocks.
  2. Test-sew a block to be sure the size is correct. Log cabin blocks should measure 9-1/4”, including seam allowances. Sew the blocks together to form the basket, as shown in the photo.
  3. Cut background piece 26-3/4” x 18”. Make handle from 1-1/2” strip of bias brown gingham print. Pin to background; hand or machine appliqué.
  4. Sew background to top of basket section. Piece should measure 26-3/4” square. Trim if necessary.

Bouquet:
Apply fusible web to wrong side of large floral fabric, following manufacturer’s directions. The background of the large floral should be the same color as the background piece used for the basket handle. Cut individual flowers and leaves from the fused fabric and arranged as desired, placing several flowers to overlap the top of the basket. Secure the appliqués along the edges with matching thread or clear monofilament thread.

Borders:
Assemble borders as instructed below, sewing each to the center panel as shown in Diagram 2.

First order: Cut (4) strips 1-3/4” x 26-3/4” from dark pink gingham for the border, and (4) 1-3/4” squares from the light pink for the corner setting blocks.

Second border: Cut (4) 2-3/4” x 29-3/4” strips from a medium brown floral for the border and (4) 2-3/4” squares of dark pink for corners.

Outer border: Cut strips of various fabrics, mixing the checks and florals, and piece them lengthwise.. Cut them into 2-3/4” wide segments and piece end-to-end to make “piano key” border strips approx. 34” long. Corner blocks are cut 2-3/4” square.

Finishing: Layer top, batting and backing. The dark brown part of the basket and all borders are stitched in the ditch. Background and light parts of the basket are stippled. Cut 2-1/2” bias binding strips from brown gingham. Fold double and bind quilt.
