Animal skins have classic appeal, especially in realistic, well-scaled
designs like Safari
Style, from quilting to home décor projects and beyond. Try this
simple envelope style pillow, accented with a two-tone cotton cording and
coordinating tassel by Hollywood Trims. |
YOU’LL NEED:
R13
Safari Style - 114S-141D - ¾ yard
18” square pillow form
¾ yard fusible fleece
2¾ yards cording with lip
4” tassel |
- Cut two fabric pieces measuring 19½” square. Cut
two pieces of fusible fleece 19½” square. Fuse fleece to wrong
sides of fabrics.
Cut
triangles 19½” x 10¼” as shown, two of the fabric and one of the
fusible fleece. Fuse the fleece triangle to the wrong side of one of
the fabric triangles. Pin cording along the seam allowances of the two
short sides. Baste. Pin tassel in place as shown. (Fig. 1) Baste. Sew
this piece to the remaining triangle, right sides together, with a 5/8”
seam and a zipper foot to stitch as closely to the cording as
possible. Turn flap inside out and press. Baste the long edge closed
(Fig. 2).
Pin
cording to the side and lower edges of the pillow front, clipping
cording at the pillow corners as shown. Position the flap on top of
the pillow front, right sides up, so that it overlaps the ends of the
cording. (Fig. 3) Pin along upper edge. Baste.
- Cover with the pillow back, right sides together.
Stitch back to front using a 5/8” seam, leaving a 9” opening at
the bottom. Turn; press, also pressing under the open seam allowance.
Insert pillow form, working it into the corners evenly. Slipstitch the
pillow opening using small, invisible stitches.
