The stunning blooms of Edelen Wille's FROM THE GARDEN collection are made even more beautiful with Vicki Bellino's cheerful design. As the owner of Bloom Creek, she was sure to come up with something wonderful for these colorful, mixable florals.

Finished Size: 56" x 62"

Fabric Requirements:
From The Garden (12) Fat quarters - One of each print
Quilter's Solids/Aunt Grace #2174 (Cream) 2-1/4 yards
Quilter's Solids/ Aunt Grace 0041(Nile)  - 1/2  yard
Sahara Cloth # 7078 (Raspberry) - Fat quarter
Sahara Cloth #7054 (Light Orange) - Fat quarter
Backing - 3-1/2 yards

Cutting Guide:
  • From each of the 12 floral fat quarters, cut the following:
    1. (4) 4-1/2" squares
    2. (2) 5" squares
    3. From the remaining fabric, cut a total of (8) 2-1/2"x 12-1/2" rectangles - Sew (4) together for top and bottom borders; cut (6) 2-1/2" x 18-1/2" rectangles and sew (3) together for side borders.
  • From each of the solid pink and orange fat quarters, cut (8), 4-1/2" squares.
  • From the green, cut:
    1. (12) 1-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles
    2. Prepare (24) leaf templates using preferred method of appliqué.
  • From the cream, cut :
    1. (3) 5" strips width of fabric (WOF); cross-cut (24) 5" squares - draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of each square
    2. (4) 2-1/2" strips WOF; cross-cut (64) 2-1/2" squares - draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of each square;
    3. (4) 6-1/2" strips; cross-cut at 6" intervals, for a total of (24) 6" x 6-1/2" pieces
    4. (11) 1-1/2" strips width of fabric
Making the Flower Blocks:
  1. With right sides together, layer a cream 5" square on each of the floral 5" squares. Sew ¼" on each side of the drawn line. Cut apart on drawn line, press to floral and square up to 4-1/2". (Diagram a.)
  1. With right sides together, layer a cream 2-1/2" square on each corner of the pink and orange 4-1/2" squares. Sew on the diagonal line, trim seam allowance and press to corner triangle. (Diagram b.) (Note: 12 will be used for the blocks and 4 will be the cornerstones of the border.)
  1. Following layout Diagram c., sew together the flower blocks, pressing in direction of arrows. Make one flower block from each of the floral prints, making six with orange center squares and six with pink.
  1. With right sides together, sew a 6" x 6-1/2" cream piece to each side of a green 1-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangle, pressing to green. Make 12 of these stem units, which should measure 6-1/2" x 12-1/2". (Diagram d.)
  1. With right sides together, sew a stem unit to each of the 12 floral blocks. Block should measure 12-1/2" x 18-1/2". (Diagram e.) Using quilt photo as an approximate placement guide, appliqué two leaves in place on each block
Finishing the Quilt:
  1. Sew flower blocks together in three rows of four blocks as shown in Diagram f.
  2. For border treatment, piece together 1-1/2" cream strips as necessary to cut four, 48-1/2" lengths. Sew to each side of the 12-1/2" pieced floral strips and sew to top and bottom of quilt. Repeat for sides, cutting four, 1-1/2" x 54-1/2" cream strips and sewing to both sides of the 18-1/2" pieced floral strips. Sew the remaining flower center units to each end of the strips and sew to sides of quilt (Diagram g.). Quilt as desired and make approximately 250" of scrappy binding using strips from the remainder of each floral fat quarter.
