Gingham Gardens Checkerboard
by Laura Farson
42" x42"

Border construction
Sew the 2" wide strips parallel to each other mimicking the order of the blue and pink blocks and offsetting the strips approximately, 1-1/2" to create a diagonal edge. First sew the strips in pairs and then join the pairs alternating the sewing direction, so the group doesn’t develop a "bowed" shape.

Trim off the uneven edge by placing a long ruler with the 30-degree or 45-degree line along the offset edge.

With the ruler placed parallel to the cut edge, cut four 3-1/2" wide border strips.

Cut each of these 3-1/2" wide border pieces 36-1/2" long (The length of the side plus ½" seam allowance).

To two of the border pieces, sew a blue corner block to both ends.

Sew two plain border pieces to opposite sides of the top.

On the remaining two sides, sew the pieces with the blue corner blocks; matching the corner blocks with the intersections of the first two border pieces. Press.
