Gingham Gardens Checkerboard
by Laura Farson
42" x42"

Cutting Plan
From each of the sixteen fabrics, cut one 3-1/2" selvedge-to-selvedge strip and one 2" selvedge-to-selvedge strip.

From the blue-textured fabric, cut four 2" wide selvedge-to-selvedge strips for the binding and one additional 3’1/2" strip cut into four 3-1/2" corner blocks.

The large blue floral will be layered with the pieced front and the batting.

Construction
Sew the 3-1/2" fabric strips together in groups of four in the order shown below.

Gingham Gardens CheckerboardPress the seam allowances toward the stripe fabric in the first and third groups. For the others press the seams toward the check fabric. This will make the seams "oppose".

Trim off the uneven selvedges and crosscut the four sewn sets into 3-1/2" strips.

Arrange the strips into groups as shown.

Gingham Gardens CheckerboardSew the strips together in rows by chain piecing. Press.

Join the rows retaining the order as shown. The joined strips should measure 36" square.

Press.
