skirt may be a peasant style with Shisha mirrors. She may already own
gloves like this one - and she may use the box for her jewelry - if any of
this describes a special woman in your life, you’ll want to sew up these
fun pieces!!!” |
The Glove |
Materials: |
- Aqua wool 10” x 16” (from the Aunt Grace
collection)
- Lime wool scraps (from the Brights collection)
- 16” aqua ombre wired ribbon, 1 ½”-wide
- Scraps of Tie-Dye Velvet, pink & green
- Assorted beads, rhinestones, embellishment yarns
- 8” x 10” piece of aqua tulle
- Matching thread
|
Instructions: |
- Cut out wool pieces, including leaves and glove trim.
- Pin ‘glove opening cover’ to top of one glove
piece. Stitch ¼” from raw edges, leaving ¼” unstitched at
beginning and end of curved edge.
- Place glove pieces right sides together, and stitch
around sides and fingers, leaving top open. Do not stitch ‘glove
opening top.’ Clip angles of fingers.
- Pin glove opening cover to opposite side of glove,
and stitch at both ends, ¾”, leaving center open for turning. Turn
right side out carefully.
- Top-stitch the finger lines as indicated on the
pattern.
- Stuff the glove firmly. When stuffing the fingers,
use small bits of stuffing at a time, to avoid lumps. Note: A hemostat
is a wonderful tool for stuffing fingers.
- When stuffing is complete, stitch the opening closed.
- Randomly place pieces of the embellishment yarns on
the top part of the hand, ending where the fingers begin. Note pattern
for placement.
- Lay the piece of tulle over the top of the yarns.
This helps to keep them from moving around while you are beading.
- Use a needle and thread to attach the beads on top of
the tulle. I bead the areas that have the yarn to help keep it in
place.
- When beading is complete, trim around the edges of
the tulle, leaving about ¼” extra. Turn the extra under and stitch
it to the side and top seams of the glove, as well as the curved area
above the fingers, noting the pattern.
- Stitch a piece of yarn to the scalloped edge of the
glove trim, and stitch it to the glove as shown.
- Gather the ribbon (if the ribbon is wired, just make
a knot at one end of the wire, and use the wire to gather the ribbon.
Pull gently so the wire doesn’t break. Stitch the ribbon to the top
seam where the glove and glove opening cover meet.
- Overlap the ribbon ¼” at the side seam, fold the
raw edges inside, and stitch the ends of the ribbon together so the
raw edges are inside.
- Cut four flowers from the pink areas of the velvet,
and use a running stitch to gather each flower tightly. The gathered
edge will be the bottom of the flower.
- To make the leaves, place the leaves on the right
side of the velvet and stitch through both layers, 1/8” from the
edge of the wool. Make seven leaves.
- Trim the velvet, then make a slit in the wool. Turn
right side out and finger press.
- Embellish the lower edge of the beaded area, by
stitching the flowers and leaves overlapping the green wool trim.
Repeat for the top of the glove, overlapping the ribbon ruffle.
- Use fabric glue to attach a rhinestone to each of the
green wool scallops.
- Stitch a large pearl bead to the center of each
flower, and enjoy your pin cushion!

Instructions: |
| Note: the measurements for the wool and
other materials are specific to this size of box. If your box is not the
same size, you will need to measure carefully. To do this, place the lid
on the box, and measure the space from the lid to the bottom of the box.
Measure the circumference of the box, and add ½”. This will be the
measurement for the piece of wool to go around the bottom of the box.
Trace the top of the lid to a piece of wool and cut out
the circle for the lid. Measure the outside edge of the lid, from top to
bottom; Measure the lid circumference, and add ½”. This measurement
will be the cover for the lid edge. Proceed with the following
instructions. |
- Use the acrylic paint to cover the inside, and 1 ¼”
of the top outside edge of the box. Paint the bottom, and the inside
and outside of the lid. When dry, brush on a second coat.
- When the paint is dry, in a well-ventilated area,
spray the painted surfaces and let the box dry.
- Place embellishment yarns randomly, on the surface of
the aqua wool.
- Place the tulle over the top and pin in place.
- Stitch beads, randomly, over the surface of the yarns
and tulle, through all layers, to attach it to the wool.
- Fold the excess tulle over to the back and pin in
place. Stitch a piece of yarn or trim to both of the long edges of the
wool, to finish the edges.
- Use the fabric glue to adhere the wool to the lower
edge of the box. Overlap the end of the wool (do not glue), and
hand-stitch in place.
- Stitch a piece of trim to one of the long edges of
the dark rose wool. Glue the wool to the outside edge of the lid, with
the trim at the lower edge of the lid. The wool will go over the top
of the box, just a fraction of an inch. Do not trim excess wool.
Stitch the overlapped edge of wool in place.
- Place the lid up-side-down on the piece of light rose
wool and trace with a pencil. Cut out the wool, then cut out a piece
of thin cotton batting ½” smaller than the wool circle.
- Use the fabric glue to adhere the batting to the top
of the lid.
- Glue the wool over the batting, applying glue lightly
over the batting so the wool will stick to the batting.
- Use a needle and matching thread to stitch the lid
cover to the edges, using a whip stitch.
- Cut a 5 ¼” circle from the tag board.
- Cut a 7 ½” circle from the piece of lime green
wool. Use a needle and thread to make a running stitch ¼” from the
edge.
- Place a fist-size piece of batting in the center of
the green wool, then place the tag board circle on top, centering the
tag board over the green wool circle.
- Pull the threads to gather the green wool around the
tag board circle. Pull tight and see if you need to add a bit more
stuffing.
- Stitch a knot to hold the gathers in place and use
hot glue to adhere the padded circle to the center of the lid.
- Pull the wire, along the blue edge of the ribbon, to
gather the ribbon to fit around the edge of the padded circle. Glue in
place, overlapping the ribbon edges ¼”.
- Create 10 leaves and six flowers, from velvet. See
Glove pin cushion, Steps 15-17. Stitch a bead in the center of each
flower.
- Hot glue the flowers and leaves to the center of the
padded circle.
- Use fabric glue to attach rhinestones around the
outside edge of the padded circle.
