Fabric Requirements Cutting
Fabric A 2 yd J441 (8) 8-1/2” x width of fabric (wof) strips for mitered borders
Fabric B 2/3 yd J439 (4) 6-1/2” x 19-1/4” strips fussy strips cutting on stripe as shown in photo
Fabric C 1/4 yd J444 (1) 6-1/2” x wof strips, recut into (4) 6-1/2” squares
Fabric D 1 yd J437 ivory (5) 2-1/2” x wof strips, sew together end-to-end then recut
(2) 48-1/2” vertical borders and (2) 52-1/2” horizontal borders
(36) appliqué bay leaf shapes using template provided
Fabric E 1/2 yd J437 green (2) 6-1/2” x wof strips, recut into (9) 6-1/2” squares
Fabric F 1/2 yd J438 (2) 6-1/2” x wof strips, recut into (9) 6-1/2” squares
Fabric G 1/2 yd J442 (2) 6-1/2” x wof strips, recut into (9) 6-1/2” squares
Fabric H 1/2 yd J443 (2) 6-1/2” x wof strips, recut into (9) 6-1/2” squares
Fabric I 3/4 yd J446 (5) 2” x wof strips, sew together end-to-end, recut
(2) 52-1/2” vertical borders and (2) 55-1/2” horizontal borders
1-1/4 yd fusible web for appliqué
Backing: 4-1/4 yd fabric I, cut in half from selvedge to selvedge to make (2) pieces, then sew together along selvedge edges. Cut to 75” square for quilt backing.
Binding: 2/3 yd fabric G, cut (8) 2-1/4” x wof strips and sew together end-to-end.

Sewing
  1. Bay leaf squares – Trace appliqué pattern to fusible web and apply to fabric D following manufacturers directions. Cut out appliqué shapes and fuse onto 36 fabric E, F, G and H squares.
  2. The quilt is sewed together in 6 rows of 6 bay leaf squares. Refer to the diagram for correct placement of fabrics and direction of bay leaf appliqué squares with the 4 fabric C and fabric I squares in the rows. Sew the rows together to complete the center of the quilt
  3. Sew two bay leaf fabric F and fabric H squares together, then sew a fabric B strip to each end of the squares. Make 4. Center on each side of the quilt center and sew in place. Miter the corners, matching the stripe, and trim away excess fabric.
  4. Sew the fabric D vertical borders to the quilt sides and the fabric D horizontal borders to the top and bottom of the quilts. Repeat with the fabric I borders.
  5. Center and sew the fabric A 84” borders to one side of the quilt with an equal amount of border fabric overlapping at each end. Repeat for each side of the qult. Miter the corners and trim away excess fabric.

 


Finishing
  1. Layer the quilt top, batting and backing. Baste, then quilt the layers together.
  2. Sew the fabric H binding strips together end to end, fold over lengthwise and sew to quilt top. Turn binding to back of quilt and stitch in place.
