All seams 1/4"

Comfort Zone fabric requirements
Comfort Zone fabric requirements

Cut:
All strips are cut from selvage to selvage. The larger blocks are cut 7" wide. Starting with (1) stripe fabric cut 4 - 7" strips (12 blocks) - (2) light green tonal - 4 strips (14 blocks) - (3) cream tonal 3 strips (8 blocks) - (4) darker paisley - 5 strips (15 blocks) - (5) cream paisley - 4 strips (11 blocks). Lay the rest aside for borders.

Cut the strips in 12 1/4" long rectangle blocks. Refer to the picture for placement of each fabric. (The number of blocks is shown behind each number of strips)

Sew the blocks end to end in rows of 7. Space them as the picture shows. Some of the 12 1/4" blocks will need to be cut in half to stagger the blocks as shown.

Sashing strip:
Cut 15 strips of the dark fabric 2" wide. Then cut 20 - rectangles 15-1/2" long and 16 - 19 3/4" long.

Cut 2- strips 2" wide from the cream tonal and cut it into 2" squares. You will need 28 squares.

Sew 5 - 15-1/2" with a cream square between each strip, starting and ending with a dark piece. This will be every other row. (5 needed) The other rows will be 4 - 19 3/4" strips with a cream on between each strip, starting and ending with a dark piece. You will need 4 of these.
Press all seams to the darker fabric.

Layout and sewing of the body:
Start with one of the7 inch strip sections and follow the layout shown on the picture. Then next will be the 15-1/2" sashing sections. Next the 7" section starting and ending with a half block, then the 19 3/4" section of sashing. Continue to the end using 8 of the 7" block sections and 8 of the 2" sashing sections.

Borders:
Make sure that center quilt section is squared and ready for the borders. All borders are pieced with strips sewn end to end.

  • 1st border: Half dark and half cream color and cut at 1-1/2" wide. Cut 4 strips of each dark and light for this border.
  • 2nd border: Green tonal cut 8 strips 2" wide.
  • 3rd border: Dark brown cut 8 strips 2" wide.
  • 4th border: Half stripe and half paisley. Cut 5 strips of each 6-1/2" wide.

All borders are sewn using a 1/4" seam and pressed after each border is sewn on. Do not stretch borders as you sew them on. Follow the picture and sew each border in place using corner method of your choice.

Square edges, then layer quilt and bind in your favorite manner.

This quilt may be made larger or smaller by simply adding or subtracting rows, or making the larger blocks smaller or larger.
