Make it with Marcus Fabrics
Pat Yamin is known for her scrappy one-patch quilts, and she's sharing one of her favorites with us to celebrate the debut of her 40's-inspired fabric collection, COME QUILT WITH ME. Designed and pieced by Pat herself, the project was then quilted and finished by Margrette Carr. Editor's Note: We loved the quilting stitches on the border, a chance to try out a few of those underutilized decorative stitches found on most sewing machines. They give the border a beveled frame effect.
NOTE: You can recreate Pat's "Twisted Tumbler" wall hanging using the template provided here, but for best results (including easier cutting of layers of fabrics and marking of the seam allowances), we recommend the use of her acrylic "goof-proof" template. To order the Twisted Tumbler template, visit Come Quilt With Me.

You'll Need:
A varied assortment of COME QUILT WITH ME prints
Coordinating solids (try AUNT GRACE SOLIDS)
1 yard backing
1 yard batting
Twisted Tumbler template (optional)

  1. Cut fabrics using the template. The design show uses 98 patches (fabrics are used more than once)

  2. Sew the patches together by hand or machine in diagonal rows, starting with 2 patches, then 4, then 6, then 8, etc. It helps to lay out the patches on a design wall or flannel first. (Diagram 1)
  3. Assemble the design to desired size and press, squaring off the sides to create a triangular wall hanging, or leave the irregular edge created by the blocks themselves.
  4. Layer the top, batting and backing and baste layers together. Quilt by hand or machine.
  5. Bind the outside edges using your favorite method, and attach a hanging sleeve.
