Old Sturbridge Village's vast historical resources document rural New England life during the period from 1790 to 1840, including an extensive group of quilts and textiles. Judie Rothermel, known in the industry for her expertise in vintage textiles and reproduction fabrics for quilters, was invited to view the OSV collection and to develop the fabric collection. Judie concentrated her efforts on designs from the 1800 to 1840 period.
Judie says of the experience, "Going through boxes and boxes of old textiles housed at OSV was so exciting to me. This is the first time I have gone this far back in time for a reproduction group. It is a time period I have always admired with regard to old quilts and I am thrilled to be introducing this new collection."
The designs represent a backward glance into history, yet they appear fresh and inspiring to the eye, with beautiful patterns including a large-scale paisley, several elegant, traditional florals and other overall distinctive period prints that will provide wonderful movement in quilt projects. This collection is sure to appeal to a wide variety of quilters whose styles range from vintage to contemporary, simplistic to elegant. The color ways of THE OLD STURBRIDGE VILLAGE COLLECTION are inspired by the original fabrics. Judie augmented the designs with some of her own color choices for the other prints in the collection. Her customized selection of solids completes the collection.
Watch for our advertisements in fall & winter issues of your favorite quilting magazines. The collection will be available in quilt shops worldwide in December.
